Paper recycling – how does it work?

Paper remains the most recycled material in Europe, with Austria leading the pack

Since the beginning of the 70s, the paper industry has been committed to reducing the total amount of waste paper produced domestically. At almost 80 percent, the Austrian recycling rate is among the European leaders and is a template for successful collection systems. However, the paper industry in Austria reuses more waste paper than it consumes in new paper. To cover the high demand, around one million tonnes of waste paper still needs to be imported.

The more paper that is recycled, the less wood you need to spend on paper production.
