As of now, saddle stitching is being performed in record time at the Neudörfl site. Leaflets, magazines, stitched booklets and catalogues in large print-runs are essentially being fast-tracked – and can be easily “saved” for further processing due to the new saddle stitcher UniDrum of the Swiss family business Ferag.
Saddle-stitching systems are used for consolidating individual folded sheets through several stations and stitching these – perhaps equipped with a cover – with one or more staples through the back and a final three-sided trimming. These systems are used in the further processing of stitched booklets, leaflets, magazines and catalogues in large-print runs.
As of now, Leykam Let’s Print is using a system from the Ferag AG. Among other things, the Swiss family business specialises in the development of conveyor and processing systems in the graphics sector and in direct advertising. The company’s saddle-stitching system UniDrum is unsurpassed in terms of speed and flexibility. It is precisely this system that will reinforce the Neudörfl site – and thereby not only increase the site’s capacity, but also its speed. The saddle-stitching system is up to 50 percent faster than the previous saddle stitcher operated by the company and essentially provides “saddle-stitching on the fast track”.
Increased speed as well as alleviated further processing of stitched print products are advantages. The system also provides the option to “save” stitched newspapers and magazines with the MultiDisc coil station – thereby saving space and ensuring a gentle processing of products. The print products are coiled up on the MultiDisc and can then be easily transferred to the next processing station.
